"I paint because my soul demands it. Creativity flows through my veins, from crayons at 1 years old to a love for dance choreography, to visual arts. Inspired by the ocean, culture, and nature, my art aims to evoke emotions and unveil the beauty in embracing the imperfections and unique wonders of life, letting go of control and reveling in the enchantment of imperfections, chaos and the unexpected"
Kristy's passion lies in appreciating unveiling the beauty and creativity that surrounds us every day, especially in the unexpected, where Imperfections transform into artistic worthiness. Her art is not just a skill but a gift, a reflection of her unique mind and lively spirit. Her motivation is to embrace the imperfections and unique wonders of life, letting go of control and reveling in the beauty of the unexpected.
Early years:
Kristy is a true artist at heart, with creativity coursing through her veins from a young age. Her journey through different forms of art - from crayons in hand before she could even walk to a passion for dance and choreography has shaped her into the creator she is today. Kristy started taking dance classes at a performance art school when she was 10. It started off as a hobby, but with each month that passed, Kristy started to become more and more rejuvenated, and with that, her creative skills truly launched with not just her visual arts of paintings and drawings, but performance arts as well.
The Set back:
Kristy then had her first sport related injury at the age of 15, which slowed her developmental progress as a performance artist. By the time she turned 17, the doctors told her that her dream of becoming a “famous hip-hop choreographer” was out the window, no longer a possibility.
This perfect dream, the one she spent every day reflecting, planning and perfecting… ended with such a severe finality. The loss of control, the loss of her dream caused a downward spiral that left her feeling lost; resulting in her love of visual arts and all her extracurricular visual art projects and classes to come to a screeching halt with that soul crushing news. She became adrift for several years where she decided to become a registered nurse in her early 20’s. She obtained her nursing degree at PENN state university and progressed through her career as being an ICU nurse and later a clinical nurse college professor. Despite setbacks and injuries that shifted her focus from becoming a performance artist and from pursuing visual arts, Kristy's artistic spirit never wavered, just became out of sight.
Early Adulthood:
It wasn’t until her early 30’s that she reflected on what was truly missing in her life, as she still felt this adrift sensation, thus she embarked on a journey to find her ‘ikigai”. After some reflection, she decided she was “void of that missing piece of creation that she craved on a soul deep level”; thus deciding to enroll in the Milan Art Institute, where she graduated and has since dedicated herself to painting professionally, chasing the midnight hours in her studio, and gaining that artistic fulfillment, her ikigai. Kristy's art is not just a product of her talent; it's a reflection of her deep connection to the world around her and her unwavering passion for creativity.
Who she is to her core:
Beyond her love for the arts, Kristy is a true artisan with a keen appreciation for the finer things in life. Whether savoring a gourmet meal, appreciating the tropical nature around her, or admiring the craftsmanship of a local artisan and other artists, she finds beauty in the details. She is a blend of a “comfort-loving creature and a daring adventurer; always ready to embrace new experiences and seek out creativity in every corner of life. From wanting to snuggle in sweatpants and a Netflix movie, to spontaneously jumping out of an airplane, which by the way I found out about from her post on social media” her husband chuckles.
Now:
Kristy spends her time with her family, enjoying nature and continuing to develop her unique style and push the boundaries of her art. Through her pursuit of unveiling beauty in the unexpected, beauty in the chaos of being imperfect, and beauty in individuality; she invites her viewers to step into a new realm of possibilities, one where worthiness, creativity, authenticity, and individuality thrive. Kristy currently lives in Hawaii with her husband Brad, her highschool sweetheart being together for more than 20 years. Their goals are to someday travel the world and seek new inspirations together.
Her Art:
Her art can be described as abstract-realism paintings, with creative and abstract elements portraying a thought-provoking atmosphere of expressive brush strokes, passionate splatters and unique viewpoints. William Plomer once said “Creativity is the power to connect the seemingly unconnected”.
“I’m encouraged and inspired by finding the beauty in things that may not receive the attention they deserve. There is creation and liveliness surrounding us everywhere that deserves a highlight to show their worthiness in our world and our lives. Someone once asked me why I paint Whale sharks, tiger sharks, turtles, eagle rays, and people… what was the reason behind it? After some reflection and research, possibly its due to a spiritual connection, possibly due from the symbolism behind these subject matters, or maybe its shining light on something others may not find awe inspiring like the majestic tiger shark, or simply maybe it’s just the soul deep love that I have for the ocean. An interesting discovery is that all these subject matters have unique personalities, unique patterns to their skin/shell/ outer beauty, an authentic uniqueness and individuality. OR perhaps it’s something else, and I hope to discover that meaning one day. I only hope my art inspires others to take a breath, live in the moment and see the worthiness in themselves and everything life has to offer.” -Kristy Vascovich
