Kristy Vascovich

The Artist Behind the Canvas

Kristy Vascovich is an artist whose work transcends traditional boundaries, capturing the essence of movement, texture, and emotion. From a young age, creativity was woven into the fabric of her life. Before she could even walk, she was already holding crayons, instinctively drawn to visual expression. As she grew, that passion expanded beyond the canvas and into the world of dance and performance art, where she discovered the beauty of storytelling through movement. This deep connection to both physical and visual artistry shaped her unique perspective, setting the foundation for the bold, multidimensional style she’s known for today.

Her artistic journey truly took flight when she was 10 years old, immersing herself in dance at a performance art school. What began as a hobby quickly became a life-changing passion that fueled her creative spirit. Over the years, she explored various artistic disciplines, refining her skills and experimenting with new forms of self-expression. Her dedication led her to pursue a formal education in the arts, and after graduating from an art institute, she fully committed herself to her craft, spending countless late nights in her studio, chasing artistic fulfillment.

Now based in Hawaii, Kristy is surrounded by a constant source of inspiration—crystal-clear waters, lush tropical landscapes, and the rich cultural history of the islands. Some say she was a mermaid in a past life, which would explain her magnetic pull to the ocean. Whether freediving alongside  sharks, surfing glassy waves, or capturing the sea’s essence on canvas, she feels most alive when surrounded by saltwater. The ocean isn’t just a source of inspiration—it’s a part of her. These experiences translate into her work, where each piece tells a story of connection—between human and nature, movement and stillness, reality and abstraction.

Her paintings are a unique fusion of abstract realism, a style that allows her to blend intricate details with free-flowing elements, capturing the balance between structure and spontaneity. She is known for her bold use of mixed media, incorporating rich textures, layers of metallic leaf gilding, and shimmering pigments that shift and transform under different lighting. She paints on a wide range of surfaces—canvas, reclaimed wood, surfboards, and even scuba tanks—turning everyday objects into striking works of art.

Texture is one of Kristy’s defining artistic signatures. She carves and builds her paintings with a sculptural quality, using tools such as sanding blades, stencils, and even live  flora to create depth and dimension. Her pieces are more than just paintings; they are tactile experiences, urging the viewer to not only see but to feel the movement and energy within them.

A Perfectionist’s Approach to Creative Chaos

While Kristy’s paintings exude a sense of effortless fluidity, they are, in many ways, a reflection of her personal struggle with control. She has always had meticulous tendencies, yet abstract painting forces her to let go and embrace imperfection—a challenge she welcomes as part of her artistic growth.

This same eye for detail led her to personally oversee the production of her art reproduction prints. Unwilling to compromise on quality, she and her husband spent many sleepless nights researching, experimentings and refining their process, combining trade knowledge with their own experiences, they have achieved beautiful success with their reproductions. The Giclee reproduction process begins with meticulously scanning and editing each painting, followed by printing samples on a variety of carefully selected papers to determine the perfect fit for every piece. Kristy’s keen eye for detail ensures that each artwork finds its ideal medium, enhancing its texture, depth, and vibrancy. Once the perfect match is discovered, she prints using a professional-grade giclée printer, then hand-finishes each piece with varnish, adding a final touch of protection and brilliance before it embarks on its journey to its new home. She has also painstakingly tested metal print shops to find the perfect partner for her metal reproduction vision. Every step of the process—from creation to final production—is in her hands, ensuring that each collector receives a piece that meets her exacting standards.
