The Story
Boo was inspired by Kalihi, a well-known resident tiger shark off Oʻahu’s North Shore. After free-diving diving with her, what stayed with me wasn’t fear. It was personality.
Tiger sharks are powerful, obviously. But they can also be calm, curious and almost comically interested in what you’re doing. Boo came out of that contradiction—and my ongoing irritation with the idea that sharks are supposed to be reduced to monsters.
This series is my version of a personality portrait: a little attitude, a lot of presence, and a reminder that strength and softness aren’t opposites.
