The Story
Love at First Sight came from meeting Kaʻale, a young Hawaiian monk seal with enough curiosity and personality to completely hijack my attention.
He was playful, nosy and just mischievous enough to make the encounter impossible to forget.
That personality is the reason this painting exists.
I didn’t want to turn him into a soft, generic “cute seal” piece. What made the moment worth painting was that he felt like an individual—curious, confident and clearly making his own decisions about the interaction.
Some wildlife encounters are beautiful.
Some walk off with a piece of your brain and refuse to give it back.
Kaʻale was the second kind.
