The Story
Maverick was inspired by a young whale I encountered in Tahiti who had absolutely no interest in behaving like a calm little wildlife documentary subject.
He twisted, moved, played and seemed completely committed to doing things his own way.
That personality is what I wanted—not simply a baby whale, but that wild little streak of independence already showing up.
The painting carries more movement because of it. Texture, metallic details and layered marks keep the surface active instead of letting the subject sit politely inside the composition.
Maverick is for the ones who were never particularly interested in the approved route.
