The Story

Peeka is part of my “Peeka Boo, I See You” mini series—a collection built to challenge the tired, fear-based story people love to attach to tiger sharks.

This piece was inspired by Gador, a striking tiger shark I encountered in the waters off Oʻahu. What stayed with me wasn’t chaos or aggression. It was composure. Presence. That kind of calm power that doesn’t need to prove itself to anyone.

That’s what I wanted this painting to hold.

Tiger sharks aren’t villains to me. They’re misunderstood, intelligent, and full of nuance. With this series, I wanted to give them personality—not as cartoons, but as real wild animals worthy of respect, fascination, and protection.

Peeka carries that attitude. There’s confidence in her, but also restraint. She doesn’t chase attention. She naturally commands it.

This piece is for the collector who loves contradiction: softness inside strength, beauty inside danger, and the kind of art that makes people stop, look again, and rethink what they thought they knew.
