The Story
Tidal Muse Manifesto marks a real shift in my work.
She was the first female figure I painted in my professional career, and once she arrived, the work opened into territory I hadn’t explored before.
I didn’t want her polished into something passive or decorative. I wanted her grounded inside the same movement, texture and unruly surface language I use throughout my ocean work.
She belongs there.
For me, that’s what makes this piece important. It wasn’t simply a new subject. It expanded what my work could hold.
She’s part muse, part force, and completely uninterested in shrinking to fit the composition.
“She was the first. After that, there was no putting the women back outside the frame.” ~Kristy
